Overview of the two modules
The training programme comprises a Management Module (five sessions and the onsite workshop) and a Leadership Module (five sessions and the onsite workshop).
The Management Module addresses selected issues of strategic, liaison and resource management relevant to language centres in a higher education environment. It aims to identify, discuss and reflect on managerial principles with respect both to their implementation in individual language centres and to their integration in participants’ own understanding of their managerial roles. Although the Module will emphasise the practical aspects of language centre management, it will also encourage participants to “think outside the box” in imagining alternative possibilities and options.
More specifically, participants will
- define the specific nature of the HE environment and identify the particular challenges and circumstances of their LCs in this context
- reflect on the complex role of a LC manager
- discuss basic elements, principles and procedures of strategic, liaison and resource management and implement them in their own individual contexts
Participants will be encouraged to devise a strategic plan for their language centres and will take part in an in-person team workshop (Building the Ideal Language Centre) in Berlin.
The Leadership Module deals with all aspects of leadership in participants’ individual contexts, identifies those aspects relevant to everyday activities, and reflects on the role of personal values underpinning one’s own leadership approach.
